Another Iconic Waycar
Title:  Another Iconic Waycar
Description:  The Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy's wooden waycars were as iconic to the "Q" as steel bay window cabooses were to the Milwaukee. #14534 was stored at United Sugars in Chaska for years until the Union Pacific's (precipitous, in my opinion) abandonment of their line to United Sugars meant this waycar and a few other GSRM museum pieces needed to be trucked to the museum at New Prague as soon as could be arranged. If you want to help give 14534 and her mates shelter, donate to GSRM via www.GSRM.org

Gopher State's Rails
Title:  Gopher State's Rails
Description:  Gopher State Railway Museum's volunteers are doing model railroading in 1:1 scale! They are slowly building a loop around their property so visitors can take train rides powered by NSP SW1 #4. For the moment the operation is "point to point" in model railroading parlance, but one day the loop will be complete and the run continuous. Here is the view from NSP 1 as the GSRM's caboose hop makes its way north along their line . Note the former Minneapolis & St. Louis at left.

Kilkenny And The "Manitoba"
Title:  Kilkenny And The "Manitoba"
Description:  The building at right is a former Minneapolis & St. Louis structure from a community south of New Prague named Kilkenny. GSRM is now utilizing the building as their depot. At left is, believe it or not, a Pullman business car from 1880! But wait, there's more. This car, the "Manitoba", was used by none other than James J. Hill himself! The "Manitoba" eventually wound up as part of a home in Howard Lake, MN, until the Gopher State Railway museum rescued the car in 1998. The car interior still contains bunks despite being used as a home addition since being retired from rail service circa 1935. This gem cries out for shelter and full restoration. To donate, www.GSRM.org is the place to go, folks.

Iconic Caboose
Title:  Iconic Caboose
Description:  The Milwaukee Road's orange bay window cabooses were iconic of the storied railroad. GSRM's #992147 is a good representative of the Milwaukee's bay window waycar fleet. A ride (or two, or three) aboard the 992147 is much recommended.

The Hilltop Depot
Title:  The Hilltop Depot
Description:  The Gopher State Railroad museum is located at a point once known on the Minneapolis & St. Louis as "Hilltop." There was no depot here, but GSRM's former Louie building from Kilkenny, MN, is now the Hilltop Depot. GSRM's track speeder and ballast car are at left, and the "Manitoba" is in the background.
