The Railroaders
Title:  The Railroaders
Description:  Right smack in the center of this photo is my friend Brandon, a Friends of the 261 volunteer. Right now he, the head conductor, and other crew are preparing to board passengers for the Winona-LaCrescent part of the trip. This is one of my rare shots of railroaders at work. By the way, Brandon has a jim dandy video group on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/user/Conductor261 where he posts videos he has taken of trains and trips like this one.

Time Warp!
Title:  Time Warp!
Description:  The fall color trip to LaCrescent crosses Franklin Avenue on its way south as fans and citizens look on. I swear, despite the modern buildings and cars, this photo could have been taken in 1953, not 2011!

Still Serves Passengers
Title:  Still Serves Passengers
Description:  Unlike many depots 40 years previous, the Milwaukee Road depot in Winona did not shut its doors but kept on serving passengers. Today it was chock full of 'em thanks to the fall color trip from Minneapolis. Note the pretty tree to the right, the best foilage my camera captured on the trip.

Weathered But Still Standing
Title:  Weathered But Still Standing
Description:  Except for the obvious modern sliding door, the old Milwaukee Road freight house next to the depot still looks like it did in the days of steam. Note the red brick pavers in the foreground, another blast from the past.

Title:  Boneyard
Description:  Except for the Soo hack at left, I can't identify which cars these are in the GSRM's collection. All could use work badly, though; looks more like a boneyard than a museum here.

The Kilkenny Building
Title:  The Kilkenny Building
Description:  This RR structure is being modified to look like a depot for a piece of equipment to be displayed at. It, the GSRM's Milwaukee Road caboose and a wooden coach that used to be a house are at the northern end of the property. All the rest is on the side close to Breg's Countryside motel off 21 here.

The Tootin' Louie Depot
Title:  The Tootin' Louie Depot
Description:  This classy depot not only remains next to the former Minneapolis and St. Louis main line just north of Main Street, it still is used by a railroad, now on its third owner, Union Pacific. Note the ice cooler in the right background in front of the depot and the dumpster on the left. Sure gives it a "lived-in" look.

Stuck The Old Neck Out For This One
Title:  Stuck The Old Neck Out For This One
Description:  I had to sneak down to get this shot of the 1498 by the downtown New Prague grain elevator as it wasn't up by the depot like I'd hoped. I admit I stuck my neck out but I got away with it. Oddly enough, a derailer was set up ahead of the unit! What for I have no clue.

"Do Not Stop On Tracks"
Title:  "Do Not Stop On Tracks"
Description:  The sage advice of the sign to the right was ignored by the SUV on the left during the wait at the stoplight at Broadway and Civic Center. How do those fools survive ... Grade crossing here is the ex-CNW Winona to Rapid City line, crossing in distance is former Chicago Great Western trackage reduced to a spur to the south side thanks to not even nearby Stewartville being served by old CGW rails anymore.

"No Trespassing" ... In Theory
Title:  "No Trespassing" ... In Theory
Description:  Sign on the left works only in theory along the CP/DM&E in Rochester; I once "trespassed" alot here during an extended stay in town back in 2001. We are looking east towards the yard office (out of view in the right background), support building, and MOW vehicles are parked. Track curling off to the right is ex-CGW which once went all the way into Iowa but now only goes to the south side of town.
