Mr. Dickens
Title:  Mr. Dickens
Description:  Ed Dickens in the cab of the 4014 at St. Paul Union Depot after he and his crew brought the train back from the North Shore. Closest I got to meeting the man. Note the "Fire Hose Only" lettering at bottom right: that is where the fire hose that puts water into 4014's tender is connected.

Passing Parade
Title:  Passing Parade
Description:  I let rip with my camera this day, wanting to catch the entire UP special. Here the train is still backing past the wye east of Union Depot. Shame Union Pacific was not selling tickets on this leg of the journey. I would have loved to have checked out that dome car.

Description:  The diesel along for the "Race Across The Midwest", the 3025, gets zero attention as the UP steam special backs into Union Depot. Sure shows the allure of a steam engine even today, no?

A Pair of Famous Transcons
Title:  A Pair of Famous Transcons
Description:  Shortly after the 4014 arrived at Union Depot, what should appear in the distance down at Division Street but a Canadian Pacific transfer (I assume?). And so the two legendary transcons, the Union Pacific and the Canadian Pacific, met. Only CP 2816, the "Empress," could have made this photo better.

Title:  4014, Fans, And Regular Folk

What Ho!
Title:  What Ho!
Description:  An eastbound (?) Union Pacific freight passed Union Depot and headed up Division Street after the steam special returned to Union Depot. I snapped this almost-flawless shot of the mid-train helper unit passing the Big Boy. I wonder if anyone in that pickup truck at upper left stuck in traffic on highway 52 cast admiring glances at the 4014?

Big Boy And A Big Bridge
Title:  Big Boy And A Big Bridge
Description:  Ed Dickens and his crew continue to back their long, armour yellow and gray train into St. Paul Union Depot while admiring railfans and regular folk take in the sight and sound of a Big Boy. I wonder how many commuters stuck in traffic up on Highway 52 took in the sight of the 4014's return to Union Depot?
