What A Lashup!
Title:  What A Lashup!
Description:  I never thought I would photograph such a lashup as this! These units formed the motive power at the disposal of the engineer and conductor of this eastbound intermodal job that had departed Northtown Yard about thirty minutes before it passed by Minneapolis Junction...and into my camera lense!

Along For The Ride To Willmar
Title:  Along For The Ride To Willmar
Description:  A westbound general freight prepares to "split the signals" as it rumbles through town. Note how exhaust is coming from only the first two units. The other three are along for the ride to Willmar. Note how there are at least two ex-Santa Fe units in this lashup, as well as the KCS unit rolling along far from home rails.

Long Train On The Siding
Title:  Long Train On The Siding
Description:  Some of the eastbound trains on the Wayzata Sub that take uhe siding at Wayzata are so short the head end power does not come to a stop down by the County 15 bridge, which makes for lousy photo angles. Today, however, a big, long eastbound freight had to come all the way down to County 15, which made it an easy catch.

Title:  A Grinstien Green and a Warbonnet
Description:  Here is an ex-BN unit and an ex-Santa Fe unit BNSF-ized but still largely in their old company colors. They were the lead power for the crew of an eastbound BNSF grain train that was stopped for an hour or two in Long Lake before cleared on into town.

Viva The Santa Fe!

Description:  The crew on this short eastbound freight has only one unit for power, but a classy one at that. Number 620 is a pure Santa Fe Warbonnet save for "BNSF" initals under the cab windows.

Love those Warbonnets!
Title:  Love those Warbonnets!
Description:  Despite "BNSF" initals under the cab, and an orange AC unit, the middle dash-nine in this lashup still reeks of the Santa Fe. Love those Warbonnets! The train in question is an eastbound grain job getting underway again after being stopped in nearby Long Lake by dispatch.

Grain on the move again
Title:  Grain on the move again
Description:  The crew of this eastbound grain train had to stop for a red signal over in Long Lake. Now they are getting a wheel into the train again as they pass County Road 15 eastbound again. It is interesting all three units are dash nines modeling three different paint jobs! My pick? Why, the ex-Santa Fe Warbonnet, of course.

Big Lashup
Title:  Big Lashup
Description:  A westbound BNSF mixed merchandise freight heads up the east leg of the wye at Division Street with no less than five units on the head end. Perhaps at least two of these were simply hitching a ride and the engineer had three units for power? (Next time I will try sitting atop a picnic bench at the railfan park here to try to get above the fence for a zoom shot, by the way.)

"What am I doing?!"
Title:  "What am I doing?!"
Description:  "What am I doing?" I asked myself as I grabbed this sub-standard shot of an eastbound BNSF freight heading down the old Great Northern with Minnesota's captiol city in the distance. Train had a CSX and an ex-Conrail unit up in front of that pure Santa Fe 'bonnet.

Title:  Eastbound Grain Train At Union Junction
Description:  Here an eastbound grain train with three Dash-Nines sporting three of the five paint schemes adopted by BNSF rolling through Union Junction underneath the U of M transitway after being briefly stopped by signals still red from a sudden detour of the CP 2816/MILW 261 doubleheader from the old GN to the old NP.

Proceed with caution?
Title:  Proceed with caution?
Description:  BNSF dispatch halted this eastbound mixed manifest in Long Lake for a short while; then the crew was cleared to proceed. It looks like the crew had a pair of Dash-nines for power, but the lead unit could have been newer; I did not get the number. The signal sure showed up good in this zoom shot. I take it the yellow over red signal informs the engineer to proceed with caution?

Still Gawking
Title:  Still Gawking
Description:  "Disaster strikes!" goes a title card in the movie THE WRONG BOX when two trains crash into each other. Same could be said for the messy derailment which covered this area only four days previously. Folks were still out checking out the cleared-up scene west of the Ferndale Road grade crossing as this westbound freight grandly paraded past with a "BNSF"-ized warbonnet leading an H-1 sister dash-nine. Note the churned-up earth remaining from the derailment and the fresh rails and ballast on the siding where it happened.
