All Done Now |
Description: |
After getting a cut of covered hoppers up into the MNNR yard (from the Hiawatha switching district, I presume) number 54 at last is brought back to the Cleveland Avenue roundhouse and allowed to cool its wheels. |

Ready To Head Around |

The hogger waits for the brakeman to hop on up front before heading back by Amtrak Midway to couple onto their train from the Hiawatha Switching District from the opposite end to shove it up into the MNNR yard. |

Passing The Platforms Again |
Description: |
The power on a MNNR train back from the Hiawatha mills in Minneapolis runs around its train on a side track at Amtrak Midway prior to shoving it up into their yard. The brakeman riding the steps was a real nice dude when I cheerfully greeted them and the old white mustached hogger gave me a wave. Gentlemen, you are a true credit to the industry! |

Just In From The Hiawatha District |
Description: |
With brakeman riding up front, a venerable Minnesota Commercial GE pulls up by Amtrak Midway long-hood first with a string of hopper cars from the Hiawatha Switching District in Minneaqolis. |

Nose Shot |
Description: |
Usually you can view MNNR locos from the south side of the roundhouse. On this Easter Sunday, however, a string of boxcars mostly blocked out the view. I got lucky with this shot, though. The barbed wire-topped chain link fence indicates just what kind of neighborhood the Commercial's roundhouse sits in. Stay alert when you visit, railfans! |

MNNR At ADM |
Description: |
The MNNR crew is just about done with their switching duties at ADM's mill located on their Hiawatha Switching District. This is why Minneapolis was dubbed The Mill City, folks. Soon the crew will take their loads back to MNNR's St. Paul yard, where they will be turned over to the BNSF and other roads for shipment beyond the Twin Cities. |

Far From The Frisco |
Description: |
I just learned this baby is an ex-Frisco unit. Sure is cool to see it still in operation, and on former Milwaukee Road rails too. In this case, the rails of MNNR's Hiawatha Switching District, serving the last operating Minneapolis mills. I had long wanted to catch the Minnesota Commercial here, and finally got my chance just as the rain was ending late on an April morning in 2015. |

MNNR 54 At 38th Street |
Description: |
Much as I enjoy photographing the Blue (formerly Hiawatha) Line, I relish seeing freight rail action on the venerable Milwaukee Rails which still parallel Hiawatha Avenue from south of Lake Street to the Princess Depot at Minnehaha Park. Here the MNNR crew is taking the 54 south of 38th Street to do some switching on a gray (and abnormally cool and windy!) Monday morning in May. |

Yard And Hiawatha Power |
Description: |
I had caught the 54 working the Hiawatha Switching District earlier in the day. The crew then returned to the roundhouse and parked their ex-Frisco steed by the power MNNR likes to give to yard duties. |
