Back To The Fifties!
Title:  Back To The Fifties!
Description:  The Milwaukee Road Historical Association had their convention in St. Paul this year, so the Friends of the 261 put on an excursion for them and the general public, resulting in this mondo excursion consist. Note the Friends new classic diesel, still sporting Wisconsin & Southern paint and number but also a classy Hiawatha logo. Talk about "back to the fifties"!

E-Unit In The Eden
Title:  E-Unit In The Eden
Description:  E-units hauling "The Olympian Hiawatha" once rolled through Eden Prairie. This weekend they finally returned in the form of Milwaukee 32A (nee WSOR 101). An E-unit in the Eden is a sight to see, folks.

E-Unit In Chan
Title:  E-Unit In Chan
Description:  The 32-A, tacked on behind the "Cedar Rapids" (barely visible at left) brings up the markers on the westbound "Gourmet Express." I could have photographed the unit as it crossed Powers, but I just had to try for a shot that showed its classic E-unit face.

E-Unit And A 4-8-4
Title:  E-Unit And A 4-8-4
Description:  The eastbound "Gourmet Express" nears Shady Oak Road, minutes from its destination, St. Louis Park. I never dared dream I would get an E-unit and a 4-8-4 in the same shot, not to mention no less than three dome cars!

Train And A Bridge
Title:  Train And A Bridge
Description:  The west end of the Loram special run by the 261 group faces the venerable bridge over the old Milwaukee Road/Minneapolis & St. Louis corridor. The cranes working on the removal of a bridge on the old Louie, long since a trail, testify to the massive changes in store with the coming of the co-location of freight rail with the Southwest LRT. In fact, the old Milwaukee at left will be replaced by the LRT at the spot, so this vista is a snapshot of not only what is to come but also what was.

Description:  The Twin Cities & Western's 30th anniversary train, which had been making several runs from Hazeltine in Chaska this day, heads out on another run shortly before 4 p.m. beneath thundery skies preparing to unleash a deluge on the southwest suburbs. The 32A sure looks good on the point of this train, supplied entirely by the Friends of the 261.
